Anini vs Mechuka
Two remote valleys, very different trips — how to choose if you can only do one.

Travellers with one week and one chance frequently ask us to choose between Anini and Mechuka. They are genuinely different trips, and the right answer depends on what you want from the journey.
The short version
Choose Mechuka for open valley scenery, Buddhist monastic culture and a more visually rewarding destination.
Choose Anini for genuine remoteness, forest and mountain driving, the Mayodia crossing and the sense of reaching a real road head.
Journey and effort
Both need two travel days each way from Dibrugarh. Anini's difficulty is concentrated in the Mayodia sector; Mechuka's is in the length of the run to Aalo followed by a slow mountain day.
Accommodation and comfort
Mechuka has somewhat more choice, including homestays. Anini is more limited and more basic. Neither is a place for travellers who need hotel-standard comfort every night.
Can they be combined?
Yes, but they sit on opposite sides of the region. A combined circuit needs around ten days from Dibrugarh. In less than that you would spend most of your holiday in the vehicle.
