Upper Assam is often treated as a transit zone on the way to Arunachal Pradesh. It deserves better. Within a small radius of Dibrugarh sit the birthplace of Asia's oil industry, a wartime road that ran to China, a lowland rainforest, some of the oldest tea country in the world, and living Singpho tea culture.
Three or four days here makes an unusually varied trip, and it combines easily with any Eastern Arunachal itinerary.
