Aalo, also written Along, is the last town on the Mechuka road with full services. Everything after it is a mountain sector that takes most of a day and should be treated with the respect it deserves.
Driving character
Sustained climbing, narrow sections, and stretches where surface quality changes without warning. It is not technically extreme driving, but it is slow, and it punishes late starts.
Practical planning
A few things that make a real difference on the day.
- Leave Aalo early — daylight is the safety margin here
- Refuel at Aalo and do not rely on availability beyond it
- Expect intermittent mobile coverage through the sector
